POC Vancouver Island
About POC Vancouver IslandThis chapter includes all of Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands. Currently our membership stretches from Victoria east to Salt Spring Island, west to Sooke, and north to Courtenay. Formed in 2006, we are a small but growing group, energetically supporting each other and our community. We invite professional organizers and people in related fields, as well as those interested in learning more about this profession to join us at our regular meetings. MeetingsOur casual and enthusiastic meetings are held on the third Wednesday, every other month, from 7-9 pm. The scheduled meeting dates for 2013 are April 17, June 19, Sept. 18, Nov. 20. Exceptions are July, August and December. As we meet in members' homes, the address and directions are emailed to all who have indicated that they plan to attend. We welcome visitors to our meetings, where we make the most of our "in-house" expertise. Each month we set a topic for discussion, and have had in-depth conversations about such subjects as personal safety; using contracts; initial interviews; organizing tools; and marketing strategies. We allow time at our meetings for Q&A and information-sharing amongst members and potential members, as well as some informal networking. Our goal is to provide educational opportunities that are relevant and interesting to our members. If there is a topic you'd like covered, let us know! Our chapter covers a large area, and we feel it is important to support and inform all of our members. In response to sufficient expression of interest, we will "take our show on the road" to Nanaimo, where we will hold a lunch-time meeting. This enables our up-Island members to participate in and benefit from belonging to our chapter, and introduces POC to other interested people. As well, Victoria chapter members offer overnight billeting to accommodate out-of-town folk who wish to attend meetings in Victoria. CostA $5 meeting fee will be charged to guests.
